Chapter 149 Lich's Factory (4)
"So fucking stubborn… now I feel like I deserve that hate for torturing him to death," Jake thought.
Putting that aside, Jake was starting to feel that he wasn\'t doing the free quests of a game anymore. Now, he was trying the history more since nothing like this had happened before. It was quite troubling, if anything… he wanted answers, but dealing with that kind of trouble between species was way beyond what he needed.
Liches\' Cloak (0%)
Mentality + 10, Willpower + 10, master this item to obtain these effects permanently.
Durability: 30/30
Jake truly needed some items that would improve his magic defenses, so he got that guy\'s cloak. Only to see that he had some weird scars across his body. He had a big one across his left chest and then confirmed that the others also had the same scar… that was kind of disgusting… since it looked like their hearts had been taken away while they were alive.
"The liches are those who have the power to hide their hearts in order to make sure that they won\'t be killed easily, right?" Jake thought. "But I still managed to kill them by inflicting enough damage, even without targetting this guy\'s head, so… this doesn\'t make any sense."
Things were getting more weird, and Jake was getting even more confused by the minute, but he had to leave that aside and hide the bodies somewhere. It seemed that the best way to deal with the liches was by ambushing them like that, and so he would do it.
After a couple of hours, Jake finished that task and then returned to the area where the liches camp could be found, and before the sun could rise, he didn\'t find any movements of people leaving or entering that place.
"It seems that despite their actions, they have been cautious…" Jake thought. "Only one group leaves at a time, and they do it when it is hard to keep an eye on them."
Since that was the case, Jake thought that it was safe to assume that the liches only started that plan of theirs recently. This makes sense, given that humans have been only moving around for these missions in the last two or three months. It was hard to imagine that any of them had obtained the power to face species of other worlds so fast… so perhaps they attacked the liches a few weeks ago.
"Considering the footprints, I saw in some of those villages… I guess humans attacked them," Jake thought. "Maybe the liches are the inhabitants of this world that only thought that they could obtain their revenge by becoming liches…"
With that in mind, perhaps Jake could attack their base right now instead of waiting for them to get more liches. Still, he decided to wait and see for another day before anything. Nothing good ever comes out of assuming things in a rush.
"I knew this mission would take longer than usual, but…" Jake said and then sighed. "Unless the tome that I receive will be really awesome, I should avoid choosing those storyline quests in the future. It is too much of a hassle."
Regardless, Jake kept an eye on things until noon, and then he took another nap until sunset, and after an hour or so, another group of liches left the hideout to look for more recruits to their army. Naturally, Jake followed them. It would have been great if they had headed in the same direction as the previous group, but despite the fact that the first didn\'t return, they headed South.
"Well, I already know how they operate, so this should be a cinch," Jake thought as he began to follow those guys.
Although Jake had thought that the pace of those enemies was higher than usual, so that surprised him. It didn\'t take long for him to understand the reason for that. Apparently, there was a village nearby down South that they had ignored until now. Jake saw some campfires in the distance, and he realized that. The liches probably ignored that place even though it was only twenty kilometers away because… it was hard to say. Maybe that small village had some sort of defense system that he was unaware of.
"Well, now… what should I do?" Jake wondered.
Jake could always try to play the hero and prevent the attack, even though that wasn\'t his style. In fact, he had no reasons to do that since he was pretty sure the people of that village would be hostile toward him. The reason for that was the fact that the word about humans attacking villages of that world should have spread by now. That was the only explanation as to why the liches were so enraged at the sight of him.
In the end, the last thing that Jake needed was to be caught in the fight between two groups. It would be even worse if they targeted him at the same time. Fortunately, Jake still had that cloak, so he could use it to hide his appearance while he attacked the liches from behind. His goal was to finish the quest, not to help others. The villagers should be grateful that he was willing to face the liches as soon as they attack instead of later while they move the prisoners… or so Jake thought.
Just as Jake had expected, the liches started the attack by putting fire on several houses with fireballs. After that, the villagers, in panic, began to leave their homes, only to be targetted by purple spheres that made them fall to the ground as if something was pushing them down.
When the liches began to like the fight, it was the moment Jake decided to attack. He put on his hood and then grabbed his swords, but then a gentle explosion of light happened in the center of the village, and then a group of six individuals appeared there.
"They appeared just at the time the villagers were about to be killed… Could they be the power rangers?" Jake asked.
That was a pretty stupid question, but Jake could only feel like they had been waiting for that… Nevertheless, after taking a better look, he noticed that some of those people looked like humans, but they had bird-like wings…
