After her encounter with Sister Yun moments before, Pei Ge’s upbeat mood was now gone.

The smile on her face had all but disappeared, and she walked down the stairs, past the lush greenery of the living room, to the bright dining room rather unhappily.

The moment she stepped inside the room, she spotted the man with just his blouse on his torso. He was stoically occupying the seat at the head of the long table.

Her mood plummeted further at the sight of this high and mighty man with his kingly disposition.

Hmph! It’s all because of this annoying fellow. If it weren’t for him, would so many things happen to me?!

“Pei Ge, come over.”

The happiness was apparent in Ji Ziming’s eyes at her arrival to the room despite his abrupt order.

However, with his homecooked sweet and sour pork tenderloin dividing his focus, he did not notice the abnormality in her expression.

“Oh.” She nodded patronizingly and walked over obediently.

Nevertheless, out of indignation, she chose to sit at the furthest seat from him.

Really, it was amusing to see how these two sat at opposite ends of such a long table.

“Sit here.” He frowned when she sat far from him.

She eyed the seat he was pointing, which was on his right side, and pouted. “I like my seat here.”

“...” His forehead creased at her words.

“Come here,” he reiterated, looking grim.

He was clearly unwilling to take ‘no’ for an answer. Under his warning glare, she could only purse her lips. In fact, she herself did not know why she did that.

“I understand.” She lightly sighed and walked over to his side grudgingly.

Really... That argument clearly has got nothing to do with this annoying fellow, so why did I vent my frustration on him?

We’re not in a relationship in the first place, and I’ve known that I’m not a good match for him even before, so what is there for me to be angry about...

Even as she thought this, she still felt her heart being pricked by a needle – it hurt so much.

“Sit properly. We’ll begin our meal shortly after.” The man’s expression and tone softened at her obedience.

These changes went unnoticed to the man himself, though. She, who was absorbed in her thoughts, did not notice the changes, too.

“Mhm,” she acknowledged. In a bad mood, she did not bother speaking further.

Only then did the man realize that something was amiss with her.

“What’s wrong with you?” he asked with a frown.

“Nothing,” she replied curtly, looking dispirited.

“Is that so?” His gaze turned colder and sharper at her dejectedness. “Tell the truth.”

This woman seems angry and in a bad mood.

“I said it’s nothing.” She pursed her lips and shot him a glare. “I’m hungry; where’s the food?”

Her fierce look had him suppressing his curiosity.

Mhm. There should be nothing wrong with this dumb woman since she’s still able to retort at me.

I must be reading her expression wrongly.

Ding! He proceeded to tap the silver bell on the table lightly.

Shortly after, a few men in uniform appeared in the dining room with trays of food in their hands.

She watched these men open the tray covers one by one and arrange the dishes on the table. Inwardly, she muttered, This is actually no different from eating in a restaurant! Plus, these are just simple homemade dishes; is there a need to make it seem as if they’re serving French cuisines?

Every dish was quickly laid on the table, and once she surveyed all of them, she was speechless for a moment.

“Just the of us are eating; why did you prepare so much food? It’s just going to be wasted,” she remarked dryly.

She was used to living a frugal life and disliked seeing stuff getting wasted.

“...” Hearing her words, he suddenly felt helpless.

Can this dumb woman’s focus be more normal?!

“Dig in!” he ordered, shooting her a cold glare.

She, for some reason, felt that the man’s glare seemed to be tinged with indignance.

I’m probably seeing wrongly!

“Oh!” She picked up her chopsticks and was about to reach for food when she felt an intense gaze on her.

She quickly looked toward the man.

It was indeed as she had expected; the man was staring at her with his pair of deep black irises.

“Why are staring at me?” she asked, frowning.

“I’m not.” He shifted his gaze away from her.

“Tsk!” Nudging her lips, she decided not to harp on this issue and just placed her attention on the food again.

Just as she directed her chopsticks to the green pepper with potato dish, which was nearest to her, she suddenly heard a series of coughing.

“Cough, cough, cough!”

This coughing fit startled her into halting her movement, and she turned her head in the direction of the man.

“Are you okay?” She noticed that the man was at her as he coughed.

“It’s nothing,” he coldly replied.

Inexplicably, she felt that the man was saying this through gritted teeth.

“Oh.” She nodded and then moved her chopsticks toward the same dish.

Her chopsticks were about to sink into the dish when the man spoke in his deep voice, “I thought you like sweet and sour pork tenderloin?”

His question made her pause again as the confusion in her heart grew.

What’s wrong with Ji Ziming today? Why is he acting so weird...
