The Assassin's Enemy Lover

Chapter 98

When he got to the training room the drill instructor had already started speaking. Yi Chen stood next to Li Ran who had been constantly watching the door looking for him.

“What took you so long?” whispered Li Ran barely turning his head so they don’t get caught talking.

Yi Chen didn’t respond he looked straight ahead and accidentally met Zi Han’s murderous eyes which almost startled him. He knew Zi Han had a temper but he didn’t think it was this extreme. But despite knowing that he was like a moth to flames. He was attracted despite the consequences.

Zi Han was the first of the two to avert his gaze. He was so irritated that couldn’t stand still. His rational mind was telling him that he had misunderstood something but he was still too pissed to calmly think.

Like an angry bull, his eyes were still seeing red and his target was a few meters away from him. It’s a good thing they were having training. He could at least vent out his frustrations. One could only feel sorry for the unlucky bastard who he would be facing off with.

“... most of you rely on mental power to decimate your opponents but anything can happen when you are facing off an enemy on the battlefield. You might experience mental exhaustion... or maybe a chemical, biological or neurological attack crippling your mental power but you are still forced to fight for your very survival,” said the tall brawny soft-spoken drill instructor as he paced on the training mat scanning through the crowd.

His steps paused in front of Evan and scoffed before commanding, “Cadet Chen!!”

“Yes sir!” responded Yi Chen as he took a step forward.

.....

“You will have hand to hand combat training with Cadet Evan and show the rest of the class how it’s done. Same rules and no mental power. Any objections,” he said his stern gaze still fixed on Evan who was standing at attention completely devoid of his previous lax behavior.

“No sir!”

“No sir!”

The two of them responded simultaneously before walking over to the wrestling mat where the drill instructor was standing.

“Don’t hesitate to yield. There is no shame in admitting defeat within this premises because we are all here to learn,” said the drill instructor before giving them the go ahead.

Yi Chen hadn’t expected such a great opportunity would be presented to him on a silver platter. His expression seemed normal but the aura emanating from his body said otherwise. He was out for blood and Evan just so happened to have offended him unknowingly.

Evan who had no idea that he had drifted into troubled waters thought this was going to be a regular spar but boy was he wrong. Like a wrecking ball on a mission to bring down a building, Yi Chen took down Evan in one fell swoop pushing him off the wrestling mat without a fight. Once pushed off the mat there wasn’t even any need to yield. It was an automatic defeat.

Evan hadn’t seen that coming. For a moment sat on the floor all wide-eyed in disbelief.

“Get up and go again,” said the drill instructor his gaze fixed on Yi Chen. The boy rarely showed his true emotions but even he could feel something was off about him today. This was meant to be a demonstration but Yi Chen took it to a whole new level and completely annihilated his opponent.

Evan got up his expression much more serious than before. He couldn’t accept such humiliation so he launched an offense and attacked Yi Chen. The two exchanged a few blows but Evan couldn’t withstand the might of this gladiator.

Yi Chen was trained in the art of hand to hand combat by his father without the use of his mental power. His father firmly believed that his strength should come both ways hence he could withstand an attack with or without his mental power. This meant Evan who based his strength on mental power only and didn’t train his physical strength wouldn’t be able to withstand Yi Chen’s attacks. Soon he was thrown off the mat and the drill instructor asked for the next pair.

Evan was feeling rather upset as he stood next to the red-haired boy. He was competitive by nature and didn’t like the feeling of losing. He vowed to work on his physical strength henceforth.

“Cadet Hela... Cadet Ran, let’s go,” commanded the drill instructor. Li Ran almost cried tears of blood hearing this. He didn’t want to fight Hela but it seemed he had no choice on the matter. Hela was especially ruthless beating the man down till he yielded.

With a smug smile, Hela smacked his ass and said, “You are still so weak just like in preschool.”

Li Ran, “Fuck!”

He recalled how Hela beat his ass in preschool for pulling a little girl’s pigtails in class. When I mean beat his ass I mean it in a literal sense. She spanked him so hard that he couldn’t sit well in class for the rest of the day.

The drill instructor called other names and as they fought he corrected them while guiding them on what they should work on. After who knows how long Zi Han who had been squatting on the ground in a horrible mood finally heard his name.

“Yes sir!” he replied before walking to the wrestling mat and when he saw who he was going to spar with a creepy smile appeared on his face.

He didn’t understand how or why he had been paired up with Yi Chen. Whatever the reason he thanked whichever god that did this. Now he could beat Yi Chen up without consequences. He had long waited for this opportunity.

“Don’t hold back,” said Yi Chen his expression as taciturn as usual.

Zi Han laughed coldly before saying, “I didn’t plan to.”

Well, sometimes a fight is necessary to grow affection. Hopefully, this wouldn’t burn down the thin bridge between them.
