The Assassin's Enemy Lover

Chapter 135

Well, Zi Han had that exact experience today. No matter how hard he tried to enjoy images of an old earth, texts and paintings his mind would subconsciously sway to his light brain and each time it dinged he would hurriedly unlock it to take a look only for him to be disappointed time and time again.

Thus the rarely seen grumpy Han Han with the aura of the Grinch manifested himself. He found no joy in going to the rooftop restaurant that served the most unique cuisines in the federation. He put up a smile and made sure not to ruin his grandpa’s day but his heart was elsewhere.

He just wanted to be under his quilt and blow up Yi Chen’s light brain with dozens of calls. Clearly, he wasn’t in the right head space and he carried over this same state to the next day.

For the better part of the evening, he had been formulating sentences in his mind about what he was going to say when he saw Yi Chen. After wording it carefully and accounting for all possible responses from Yi Chen he fell asleep with a contented smile.

He even woke up early the next day in a jovial mood. While his grandfather was serving him a plate of steamed buns in the kitchen he slipped into the pantry and grabbed a packet of butterscotch candy.

Since Yi Chen liked it so much he decided to coax him this way. He found a cute mesh pouch with chocolates from the wedding and tossed them out into another container before putting in the butterscotch candy.

While he was doing this a figure flashed by the door and stared at him for a second before asking, “What are you doing?”

Zi Han jolted in fright spilling some of the individually wrapped candy on the floor. “Ma..... you almost gave me a heart attack, ” he said bending down to pick up the fallen comrades of which some of them had cracked.

.....

He obviously couldn’t give Yi Chen broken candy so he could only put it away and grab some more from the packet.

How could Zi Xingxi not know what was happening? This brat was trying to coax people but like she said before she won’t interfere. She didn’t like it but she also wouldn’t get involved.

“That’s your grandfather’s favorite candy by the way. If I were you I would inform him that you robbed him of his favorite thing,” she said with a light chuckle before walking past.

Zi Feiji who had ears as sharp as a bunny despite his age yelled from the kitchen, “What did he take that belongs to me?”

Zi Xingxi walked back in reverse and peeked her head through the pantry door before whispering, “Should I tell him or do you want to do it?”

Zi Han who thought she had left was frightened again. For the past two days, his mother was truly out to get him. Since she had vowed to not involve herself in the matter she found other ways to vent her dissatisfaction.

That included but was not limited to unwarranted teasing and making things difficult for him on purpose. Zi Han knew this was just a phase and thus ignored it. Like she said she won’t interfere but that doesn’t mean she would support him.

Zi Han sighed while following after his mother. He placed the poached candy on the counter and told part truth to his grandfather.

He just said he wanted to eat some and give some of them to his classmates. This vague explanation had grandpa Zi unfazed. If his grandson wanted candy then he can have as much as he wants. This old man didn’t mind sharing.

Zi Xingxi suppressed her lips that were threatening to quirk up seeing this harmonious interaction. She knew her father was in a great mood because yesterday he had so much fun dragging his family along to do what he wants.

But wait till he finds out who the candy was for. That chilled relaxed mood would vanish like a wisp of smoke.

She silently ate her breakfast without saying much. As soon as Zi Han left the house with Old Lu to drive off to school, Zi Feiji glanced in Zi Xingxi’s direction and asked, “What are you smirking for? For the entirety of breakfast you were wearing that smug look... is there something you are keeping from me?”

Zi Xingxi took the last sip of her black coffee and got up while responding casually, “You are overthinking it old man. I said nothing.... I will be away for two days. I have to figure out who is behind these attacks.”

Zi Feiji was successfully distracted. He forgot all about what happened at breakfast and his expression turned serious. “Be careful out there,” said Zi Feiji his tone a little sullen. He didn’t know what kind of enemy they were dealing with and he hated the fact that his daughter was at the forefront.

“I will,” she said and kissed her dad on the cheek before grabbing her jacket and walking out of the house. Zi Feiji was left alone standing in the kitchen with a heavy heart.

Zi Han on the other hand was constantly glancing over at Yi Chen’s empty desk with slight annoyance. He placed the pink mesh pouch filled with butterscotch candy on Yi Chen’s desk with a note written, ‘Don’t be mad anymore,’ but the person still hadn’t shown his face.

Irritable Zi Han lay flat on his desk while playfully blowing his strand of hair hanging on his forehead. Shorty had already noticed his terrible mood thus he was treading carefully while the pair of twins were stuck in their own little world doing who knows what.

Just when Zi Han gave up on sulking and decided to do some school work the person he had been waiting for showed up and from the looks of it, he looked like he didn’t sleep much.
