The Assassin's Enemy Lover

Chapter 161

As he fell off the building he managed to flip his body over and blast the beast with a plasma cannon. A loud explosive sound followed and the building Zi Han and Yi Chen were standing on shaking at its foundation.

The explosive force of the god-level plasma cannon ripped through the structure of the skyscraper and the roof came crashing down.

Amidst the debris and the shattered glass, Zi Han’s mech tightened its grip on the hilt of the flaming sword and swung it slashing the red-eyed monster while falling out of the sky.

Its blood painted the skies like a canvas creating a picturesque scene. Coupled with the mech falling from the skies it looked like the perfect promotional footage to recruit new cadets into the military with.

Zi Han enjoyed the feeling of free falling from the sky thus he closed his eyes meditating on the loud rush of the wind in his ear when he sensed something coming for him from the right. His eyes abruptly opened and for a moment there was a touch of scarlet in them. He felt a surge in his senses like his mental power was about to have a breakthrough.

But the feeling vanished as quickly as it came. Like a blocked pipeline his mental strength which was on the verge of breaking through was blocked and the feeling disappeared.

Despite having failed he still had a sly grin on his face and as he spun around to slay the beast coming for him, it was suddenly grabbed by something letting out a high-pitched shrill before it was dragged away.

Zi Han activated flying mode and as his mech stabilized he stared at the culprit who had the balls to steal his prey. Yi Chen who had performed the heroic act of saving the damsel was unaware of it. He stomped hard on the beast’s neck with his mech crushing it to death.

.....

Zi Han was about to complain but when he saw how handsome Yi Chen looked slaughtering that beast, he let it go. Four more beasts emerged from the clouds of dust and bared their teeth and claws.

With a sharp turn, two laser guns appeared in Zi Han’s hands and he shot at the beasts hitting one straight in the head.

The beast’s body fell backward from the force and hit the ground releasing its final breath. The other one that had been shot in the leg and abdomen staggered tripping over its body before it got up and lunged at Zi Han like a cheetah pouncing on its prey.

Zi Han’s mech grabbed hold of its neck squeezing it tightly. It writhed in pain with its claws grasping air trying to claw at Zi Han’s mech but it failed.

With a look of resentment in his eyes, Zi Han drove his flaming sword inside the beast. The beast paused for a moment as though in disbelief but before it could regain its senses Zi Han pulled the hilt up and tore the beast in half.

That’s when he heard Li Ran’s cries in the team chat. Yi Chen was about to respond to his call when two more beasts emerged from the thick clouds of dust. “Can you handle it?” asked Zi Han seeing that he was preoccupied.

“I got this,” replied Yi Chen as he blocked the monster’s attack with a blade while simultaneously pulling the trigger and ripping a hole into the creature’s stomach.

Zi Han didn’t waste any time. He shot out into the dense cloud while pinpointing Li Ran’s location. According to the mission display they only had two beasts to kill before the mission is considered a success. Based on Yi Chen’s efficiency he reckoned that before he even reaches Li Ran’s location there would only be one left.

Zi Han’s mech landed in a dark alley and his senses suddenly tingled. Just like before his mech couldn’t fit thus he had to reduce its size to his height.

He pressed his lips into a thin line as he took a step inside. “Li Ran,” he whispered but his body suddenly froze as the feeling of having his mental power being invaded and ripped out of him resurfaced.

Images of what happened that day flashed in his mind suffocating him. Every sense in his body was telling him to run but because his teammate was in there he couldn’t leave. His back covered in a layer of cold sweat he stepped into the alley but instead of Li Ran, he was met by the same humanoid creature that attacked him that day.

Zi Han had his weapon drawn but for some reason, he froze. His breathing quickened as he pressed his finger on the trigger but that feeling of helplessness from before reemerged.

The creature put on a malicious smile as it walked over to him in slow strides as though taunting him. His chest heaved violently as the muzzle of his gun pressed onto the chest of the creature.

Like before it reached out to him with a slight tilt of its head intending to take out his father’s pendant. Zi Han’s body trembled involuntarily as he whispered, “No.”

Sensing his fear and anxiety the creature’s eyes gleamed like it was satisfied with his response.

Zi Han was so drawn in the scene that he forgot it was a simulation. To him everything before him was real. The alley was real, the creature was real and so was what the creature was going to do to him. He appeared fine on the outside but on the inside, he was crumbling down.

Meanwhile, Yi Chen who had finished slaughtering the last of the beasts was surprised when he didn’t hear any prompt notifying them that they had completed the mission. A little worried he called out to Zi Han but there was no response. As he scanned the mission map looking for his location he called out to Li Ran.

“Li Ran, is Zi Han there?” he asked. Li Ran, however, didn’t respond thus Yi Chen could only fly over to his location having not found Zi Han on the map.
