Chapter 410 - You Can't Die
Although Zaos hit the assassin\'s arms with the reverse side of his blade, they still didn\'t groan in pain. The effects of the spell were canceled by the damage, but Zaos still managed to break the legs of the other three and make them fall before they could try to escape.
While those two escaped, the remaining assassins created a perfect encirclement around Zaos. They were neither too close nor too far away. Zaos couldn\'t see all of them, but he could sense their movements, and they were preparing to throw their poisoned knives. While fighting without worrying about their weapons was convenient, Zaos knew that a single scratch caused by those would at the very least increase the difficulty of the fight quite a bit.
When the assassins threw their knives, Zaos cast protection and used a lot of mana to increase the spell\'s effectiveness. Zaos charged toward the enemies at that exact time, and even though he lowered his Posture to dodge some, he still felt many parts of his body getting scratched by the weapons…
"Shit… this piercing power is insane," Zaos thought and then used Detoxification.
Zaos felt the parts hit in his body getting hot, but those effects disappeared when he used the spell. It seemed that his magic decreased the efficacy of the knives. Regardless, when Zaos approached the three nearby assassins, he swung his sword and hit them in the stomach. Those who were hit rolled on the ground and groaned a little bit in pain since Zaos broke their ribs. Three other assassins tried to attack Zaos from behind. Still, even without looking, Zaos turned, already swinging his sword, and hit those three as well with the reverse side of his blade. However, before he could finish the motion of that attack, Zaos felt the approach of several other assassins. Their speed was much greater since they weren\'t planning to attack like usual. Each of them jumped while aiming at Zaos\'s limbs.
Zaos used Sleep again, and when they grabbed his limbs, they had no strength to do anything. Staying awake was the best they could do. Zaos broke their limbs while clicking his tongue since he was using too much mana and because the other assassins didn\'t let him finish the job.
"I suppose it can\'t be helped…" Zaos muttered when he noticed that some assassins had recovered their knives.
Zaos wanted to use his magic crossbows later, but holding back was too risky when he was surrounded by high-level assassins. Not to mention, he wanted to spare all their lives. When the next group of assassins approached, Zaos hit them with electric bolts and then broke their limbs while they were being electrocuted. For a second, all the other assassins froze on the spot since they didn\'t know what was going on. Still, the slavery spell and the order they received early forced them to dash toward Zaos again.
Zaos quickly used all the mana he had in the crossbow before he could even deal with half of the assassins. That annoyance actually gave him a good idea… he enhanced his sword with Earth magic several times to increase its reach, and then he began to spin it above him. The assassins that tried to approach were hit by the sword that now looked more like a thick staff and fell unconscious. Those who tried to throw their knives toward Zaos only saw them being repelled by his weapon. While it was long, it was extremely light, so he could make it spin at fearsome speeds.
"All right… this should help me conserve my mana," Zaos thought.
That was all nice and good, but then Zaos noticed a presence moving away from that place. It was probably the guy who gave the order to attack Zaos… he couldn\'t escape. Zaos stopped his attacks and then enhanced his legs and dashed toward the enemy who was trying to escape. The other assassins tried to follow him, but they couldn\'t match Zaos\' speed.
While Zaos was running over the walls that divide that hideout into sectors, he noticed that those numerous walls also formed a very complicated maze below him. If he couldn\'t jump so high, he probably would get lost in there. Regardless, he saw a cloakless man also running over the walls trying to escape. He took a glance at Zaos, and he noticed that the man already had grey hair, so he probably wasn\'t new in the organization. Still… Zaos hoped that he would find all the low lives in a single place.
Eventually, Zaos noticed that the gray-haired man was running toward a tunnel on the other side of the hideout… as expected, they really had an emergency exit. Zaos smirked when he saw the target approaching the tunnel… which only made things easier for him. When the target approached the tunnel, Zaos fired a Thunder Sword. That usually would kill those who get hit by it no matter what, but Zaos counted that the man would use his own knife to block the attack. He did it after turning around, but then he was shocked and paralyzed by the attack. When Zaos finally got close enough, he fell on his knees while his whole body was emitting steam.
Before the other assassins could get close, Zaos healed the man, who was now barely recognizable due to the burn marks. He had to do that. Otherwise, he wouldn\'t be able to talk.
"Where can I find your friends?" Zaos asked.
The man looked at Zaos, and then he opened his mouth, but before he could bite his own tongue, Zaos put his sword there.
"Nope… you can\'t die that fast," Zaos said. "Assholes like you need to die slowly. Otherwise, I won\'t feel satisfied and you need to see how karma is quite the troublesome thing."
Zaos enhanced a finger with wind magic until it was covered in Electricity.. Once that happened, he touched the man\'s forehead and made him tremble all over. The enhancement will last for fifty seconds, and Zaos used that time to make his sword slowly pierce the man\'s heart…
